Marcus and I would like to say an enormous thank you to David and The Smoking Barrel Ceilidh Band for all their expert, professional help and guidance throughout our wedding! The Piper at the castle was fantastic, thanks for organising it. And as for the ceilidh and disco - it was just outstanding!! The “foreigners” loved it, David was excellent at calling out the moves - made it very easy for everyone to enjoy the dancing. What a great night we had - can’t recommend you guys enough. Absolutely brilliant. Thank you!

The Smoking Barrel Ceilidh Band were fantastic at our June wedding! Really high quality and great fun – our guests had a wonderful time and the dance floor was packed full the entire evening. As my family is all American, it was their first introduction to a ceilidh and they loved it. The band were also great in getting all the logistics sorted – very easy to get in touch with and really flexible when we needed to make some adjustments to the timings. Highly recommend them!

David Clifford

David is a multi-instrumentalist who has been playing guitar, piano, calling and singing on the ceilidh circuit for over 15 years. As a graduate of the prestigious BA Applied Music course, he has performed with many notable artists, orchestras, choirs and bands across the world as well as excelling as a Secondary Music Teacher.

As a prolific singer-songwriter, David has achieved multiple chart successes as well as appearing on Top of The Pops, CBBC's Something Special, People’s Postcode Lottery, BBC News and various music videos. David attributes his successes to hard work, love of music, talented band mates and pride in providing clients with the best possible experience.

In 2016, David received an award from the Prime Minister at Downing Street for charitable work, including numerous gigs with The Smoking Barrel Ceilidh Band in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

andrew lamb

Andrew Lamb is a multi-instrumentalist and composer from Edinburgh. Moving to Glasgow in 2005 to pursue a career in music, he gained work amongst Glasgow’s vibrant music scene, including session work with folk groups, ceilidh bands, theatre pit bands and the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland. He also began his teaching career, gaining experience in various individual and group teaching posts.

In 2010 he graduated from Glasgow University with a Masters Degree in Electronics with Music, through which he had the notable opportunity to collaborate on a design project with Glasgow based hi-fi manufacturer, Linn Products. Following this, Andrew went on to study Scottish Music at the RCS (RSAMD), where he also opted to pursue opportunities in jazz piano, composition and philosophy of music. In his time at the RCS he also formed a duo with American piper Will Woodson, performing at various festivals and appearing on BBC Alba.

Since qualifying as a secondary teacher, Andrew combines his performing and composing work with part-time classroom teaching, as well as directing the North Lanarkshire Council Schools’ Traditional Music Group.

Andrew’s compositions explore elements of Scottish traditions, electronic music and field recording, while his interest in wildlife sound recording continues to lead to ever more challenging and unique recording scenarios. He is currently working on his debut album, due for release in 2017.

Andrew Cowie

Andrew has been playing the drums since the age of 12. After telling his parents that he would be attending drum lessons at school, they replied “ye’ll need to do more than get yer standard grade in drumming, son!”. Whilst that was sound advice, drumming has led Andrew down a successful path nonetheless!

Upon leaving school, Andrew accepted a place on the BA Applied Music Course at Strathclyde University, graduating with an Honours Degree in 2004. By this point his parents had long accepted his chosen career path and thankfully, had provided much needed support!

Andrew is in high demand as a session drummer performing in a variety of musical styles and settings, including jazz ensembles and big bands, classical ensembles, function bands, theatre productions and Scottish traditional groups. In addition to his regular playing commitments, Andrew holds teaching positions as a percussion instructor in Renfrewshire and Glasgow City Councils.
